Political Recall

Dear Editor,

Can we recall Congress and the Senate? All of them should be thrown out on top of their heads. Look at how they're bailing out the banks. Bank executives are receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in Christmas bonuses without a single objection from any member of the House or Senate. Since the federal government controls the banks, it makes me believe those bonuses are not just for the executives, but are spread around to House and Senate members.

Only a few weeks ago our State Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo, caught an executive from AIG Insurance cashing a $19 million check just days after the company was bailed out. As if that wasn't bad enough, the same executive had secured $600 million in bonuses for his friends at AIG. Again, not one House or Senate member objected. Do you really believe all these huge sums are staying with the executives? The masses are angry and Congress and the Senate are too busy trying to keep things the way they are to realize a revolution is brewing day by day.

Just look at all the objections against Caroline Kennedy taking over Hillary Clinton's Senate seat. Democrats and Republicans are furious at the thought of a new, honest senator. Maybe Caroline would object to executives and CEOs flying around in $60 million jets and collecting hundreds of millions in salaries with bail-out money. Maybe she would object to the three big car manufacturers refusing to make a better engine to burn natural gas and reduce our dependency on foreign oil. I cannot see how our present situation can be solved by the same ones who created it.

Demand that the House and Senate listen to the people or resign. We are supposed to be the government. Let's act like it.

JOHN BAXTER
