Rockaway Park Goes Powerless

Heavy winds blew through the peninsula on Tuesday morning, damaging four power poles in Breezy Point, which impacted a primary power line that serves 2,500 people, according to LIPA officials. The power outage was felt in the radius of Beach 116 Street to Rockaway Freeway. Power was restored to area residents by 10:15 a.m., about an hour after the power went out. The Rockaway Park A Line was impacted by the power outage and passengers to Beach 116 Street had to be bused to their ultimate destinations. Pictured, electrical poles and transformers lie on the ground as workmen toiled to fix the problem.
