Historical Views of the Rockaways
A Blast From The Past… Far Rockaway - 1980 From Rockaway Review Magazine

It was a great day in the Rockaways' history when our esteemed St. Joseph's Hospital in Far Rockaway was absorbed into the St. John's Episcopal Hospital system … to become known as the St. John's Hospital South Shore Division at Far Rockaway, New York.

In late summer of 1980 ground was broken for a new building on the north side of the old St. Joseph's building fronting on Brookhaven Avenue between Beach 20 Street (Central Avenue) on the west, and Beach 19 Street on the east.

On the Beach 19 Street side an enclosed pedestrian bridge was constructed to connect with the nurses' quarters just to the east near Beach 17 Street.

Today's historical view appeared in the C of C's Rockaway Review Magazine in summer of 1980.
