Man Hospitalized In Inwood Assault

An unidentified 39-year-old man waiting for a bus in Inwood last Friday was seriously injured and taken to St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway after being assaulted and robbed by a group of men who are still being pursued by Nassau County detectives, according to police officials. It is not known if the assaulted man is a Rockaway resident.

The victim was sitting on a railing of a parking lot on Wanser Avenue near Henry Street at 5:40 p.m. when, he says, four or five men, described to be between the ages of 15 and 17, approached him on bikes, police report.

They further state that one of the assailants grabbed the victim around the neck and dragged him into the parking lot, where the group kicked him in the head and face.

The beating wasn't broken up until a witness walking by yelled and scared them off. The victim was robbed only of his cell phone, law enforcement officials report.

The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition with facial contusions, lacerations and a broken nose, the police report continues.

Nassau County Police have made no arrests and are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers confidentially at 1-800-244-TIPS.
