Despite Storm, Relay For Life Draws Hundreds to Riis Park
For Food, Fun, Laps, Luminaries And Remembrances
The weather was threatening and the venue was brand new, but the annual Cancer Society Relay For Life drew hundreds to the Riis Park Mall for a celebration of life and a memorial to those who were savaged by the disease. Participant teams walked laps around the track and enjoyed themselves during the all-night event. A heavy deluge at the beginning of the evening on Saturday night did nothing to dispel the ardor of those who came to fight cancer. After dark, luminaria dedicated to those who beat the disease as well as to those who succumbed were lit along the track.Photos by Miriam Rosenberg and Howard Schwach
