Pheffer Pushes Incentives For Hybrid Vehicles

Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer said this week that she will sponsor several initiatives in the Assembly that will provide further incentives for New Yorkers to purchase hybrid vehicles.

Pheffer is a sponsor of A.457-A, which exempts hybrid vehicles from sales and compensating use tax. The assemblywoman has also sponsored A.7626-B, which exempts the sale of hybrid vehicles and certain high-efficiency vehicles from state sales and compensating use taxes, and authorizes cities and counties to grant such exemption.

"Hybrid vehicles aid our environment in many ways; they are more energy efficient, provide better fuel economy, and have reduced air pollution emissions. Although there has been an increase in sales of hybrid vehicles, the sales tax and compensating use tax exemption will increase the incentives for consumers," said Pheffer.

In addition, Pheffer has sponsored A.4281-A, which establishes a tax credit against corporation taxes, business corporation taxes and personal income taxes, for the purchase of hybrid vehicles.

"To encourage New Yorkers to purchase new means of transportation that utilize the clean, efficient technologies available in hybrid vehicles this important piece of legislation provides a $4,000 incentive to consumers, an important step motivating more consumers to take advantage of this 'clean technology'," said Pheffer.

The bills are currently under consideration by the Assembly Ways and Means Committee.
