DOE Sets Website For Public School Teachers

Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein has announced the launch of a new onestop shop on the Department of Education's Web site for public school teachers. Teacher Page, which is launching during National Teacher Appreciation Week, will give teachers quick and easy access to human resources information and a wide range of teaching resources. It will also allow teachers to access calendars, email, and lists of special opportunities, including grants and other programs for teachers and students. It is located on the Department of Education's Web site at www.nyc.gov/schools/teachers.

"We all know how hard our public school teachers work every day," Chancellor Klein said. "This new Web site will give teachers a resource that I hope will help them find important answers and learn about opportunities that will enhance their work and save them time."

The Department of Education created Teacher Page based on feedback from teachers across the City about how a Web site could best meet their needs. The site will include:

Prominent links to Human Resources information, such as health benefits, salary steps, and payroll; Information on learning standards; Professional Development catalogs;

Links to lessons and activities;

Opportunities to apply for grants, fellowships, and workshops;

Information on discounts and donations;

Enrichment opportunities and contests for students;

Listings of upcoming events; and Direct access to e-mail.

Teachers can also sign up for various Department of Education publications on the site, including the new Teachers' Weekly e-newsletter.
