SJEH Offers Community Service

Many people in the community self-inject medication to treat a variety of disorders and illnesses. The disposal of used needles is a public health concern because improperly disposed needles can become a health hazard. According to the Centers for Disease Control, billions of syringes are used outside of health care settings.

St. John's Hospital is assisting with the disposal of used syringes, needles, and lancets. The items, which must be in a sealed plastic container, can be brought to the Environmental Services Office, located in the hospital's Central Pavilion, ground level, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call the Environmental Services Department at 718-869-7776.
