Mother's Day Remembrances At AA 587 Memorial

Family members with Mother's Day plants and balloons begin to set up the Beach 116 Street memorial for a short service that was held on Sunday for about 40 people who came from all over the city to remember their loved ones who perished on the plane.
Mother's Day drew dozens of family members to the memorial dedicated to those who died when American Airlines Flight 587 crashed into Belle Harbor, killing all 260 people on the plane and five Rockaway residents on the ground in November of 2001. Many of those who came to remember mothers, grandmothers, daughters and sisters brought flowers which were deposited in the irregular holes left in the stone wall, which is inscribed with all the names of those who died that November day.
