Rockaway Earth Day Brings Crowds To Boardwalk
By Miriam Rosenberg

Environmental sculpture artist Ethan Long and students from PS 43 designed this sculpture that is located off the Beach 29 Street boardwalk.
Despite cloudy skies and cold weather, a large crowd came out last Saturday for Rockaway Earth Day '08 on the boardwalk and parking lot at Beach 29 Street.

The day, meant to raise awareness of the natural resources along Far Rockaway's waterfront, was hosted by the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance. Among the 23 other organizations involved were the American Littoral Society, the city's Department of Environmental Conservation and the National Park Service.
The Green Circus performers - Mr. Smog, Mr. Farmer, a troupe member representing an industrial plant, a clown and Solar did skits about the importance of taking care of the environment.
