LI Alzheimer's Foundation Salutes Local Resident

Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation honoree Shaniqua Hayes.
The Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation (LIAF) honored 50 individuals, and three therapy Dogs, at its 14th Annual Outstanding Service Awards Luncheon on April 10. The honorees were saluted for their dedication and compassionate service to those stricken with Alzheimer's disease.

Among the honorees was Shaniqua Hayes of Far Rockaway, who was honored for her commitment as the Reflections Unit supervisor and medical aide at the Bristal Assisted Living in Lynbrook. She has been the supervisor of the dementia unit, Reflections, for the past nine years. The unit is specifically for residents with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. When asked why she dedicates her life to the care of residents with dementia, she said "I wouldn't want to be anyplace else. I enjoy keeping them happy and making them laugh. I have a special place in my heart for people with dementia."
