Theodore Peter Stathis
Retired

Theodore "Teddy" Stathis, a lifelong Rockaway Beach resident, died April 28. He was 83.

Stathis was born in Manhattan on August 21, 1924. He attended Far Rockaway High School where he was the captain on the swim team. At the age of 19, he joined the U.S. Army, as a member of the 3rd Infantry Division "Rock of the Marne" and fought in World War II. He was a retired manufacturing furrier. In his later years, he spent the winters in Sarasota and Spring Hill, Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathleen (nee Oates); brother, Dr. John Stathis; children, Steven, Agnes Broderick, Peter and Ellen Daly; grandchildren, Christian, Craig, Danielle, Taylor, Alexis, Teddy Stathis, Colleen Stathis Rodriguez, Bobby and Caitlin Broderick, Michael, Kathleen, Matthew and Julia Rose Daly; greatgrandchildren, Paige and Damian Stathis and Ella and Nilo Rodriguez.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Church.
