Peninsula Hospital RNs Protest For New Contract

Nurses at Peninsula Hospital have been without a contract since Wednesday and on Thursday afternoon they took to the sidewalks in protest for the lack of agreement between the hospital and the New York State Nurses Association, who represents the 200 registered nurses employed at the Rockaway hospital.
Issues with the new contract include a call for an improved work environment that would aid in the recruitment and retaining of registered nurses, who often leave for other hospitals with higher pay and better benefits, and a special provision in the new deal that would provide health care coverage through their retirement.
