They might be singing, "See the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet," or "Go see Ella in your Elgin Six." Second from the left is Edward Sanger Sr., who was the northeastern representative for the Elgin Six automobile. Perhaps you remember the old 1920s ad published in views a few weeks ago. The Elgin got 22 MPG in those early days. This automobile was very popular and was fitted out with Falls Tires, a company also operated by Sanger at this time. In October of 1929, the newspaper called Variety ran a headline which read, "Wall Street Lays An Egg!" This disastrous stock market crash brought an end to many companies and products when the Great Depression of the 1930s set in. So ended the life of the Elgin Six car and Falls Tires.
I wonder what the Elgin MPG would be if the car was still produced today. Most cars today, with all their technology, rarely get what the Elgin did in the 1920s, and that was 22 MPG then!
