Brathwaite was born on January 31, 1929. He worked as a supervisor with the New York City Parks Department and retired in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; stepson, Melvin Bufoloe; sons, Lloyd Jr., Tobias and Stephan; daughter, Romanaire; brother, Mitchel; sister, Inid; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were kept private.
