Detectives Corral Cop Shooter

Detective Kevin Cashen, a member of the 101 Precinct Detective Squad, left, walks Takin Newsome from the precinct house. Newsome allegedly shot at two police officers at Beach 54 Street on Monday, April 14. Police say that officers responding to a "shots fired" call on Monday, April 14, found Newsome and Jamil Dobson shooting at each other. Sources say that the two men had a dispute earlier in the day, which sparked the shooting spree. Newsome allegedly then shot at the police officers and they returned fire, but nobody was hit. Newsome was arrested on Friday and he is reportedly awaiting arraignment on assault, criminal possession of a weapon and attempted murder charges in connection with the shooting. Newsome was arrested on Friday, April 18, shortly after his photograph appeared in The Wave.
