Weiner Celebrates Earth Day In Style
At the press conference Weiner outlined his list of initiatives aimed at preserving the delicate of eco-system Gateway. "We have done about $70 million of improvements in the last nine years and have an ambitious $100 million plan for the next ten years," Weiner said. Parts of his plan include the continued restoration of the Jamaica Bay marshes, beach replenishment, a Floyd Bennett Field boat launch, and working with the NYPD to move their training facility from Gateway to College Point. "Each year here at Gateway we try and make things a little bit better," Weiner said. Sean Meenan is the owner of the french fry-powered car that provided the ride for Weiner. Meenan is the proprietor of Brooklyn's Habana Outpost on Fulton Street, an eco-friendly restaurant that uses solar power and captures rainwater to flush its toilets.
"This car gets about 30 miles per gallon," the restaurateur said. "I used to have to pay to have the oil carted away, now I just throw it in the back of the tank."
