Smith Applauds Forums On After-School Programs

State Senate Democratic Leader Malcolm A. Smith called last week's town hall forums, focusing on after-school programs, "an opportunity to enrich the lives of our community's youth."

The forums were held at Horizon Care Center and Robert Ross Family Life Center on April 16 and 17, respectively. The panelists that attended the forum included representatives from the Department of Youth and Community Development, the After-School Corporation, the Police Athletic League, the NYPD Explorers Program, the Crown Heights Youth Collective, and Legal Outreach Inc.

Smith thanked local after-school program administrators. "In showcasing the various programs in the area you have taken a strong step forward in providing our youth with educational opportunity," said Smith.

After-school programs serve as an important asset to communities throughout New York State by bringing together teachers, students, parents and volunteers. "After-school programs are necessary for everyone, and we can all agree on the importance of the education and care of our children," concluded Smith.
