U.S.Treasury Official Addressed Sanders' Seminar

In response to the mortgage meltdown, a high-ranking member of the Bush administration attended Councilman James Sanders' "Rescue Your Home" seminar on Saturday, April 19. Treasurer Anna Escobedo Cabral addressed community organizations, civic leaders and residents about the housing crisis which is devastating the country. Cabral discussed the initiatives of the federal government to deal with the economy and assist millions of Americans who are facing losing their homes. Sanders addressed the taboo that surrounds speaking out about foreclosure and stressed the need to let go of pride, in order to come out and get help. The councilman also urged residents to attend similar workshops to receive assistance.

The "Rescue Your Home" seminar was the first in a series of workshops to assist homeowners who are in jeopardy of losing their homes. The workshops feature housing organizations and counselors, legal services and mortgage lenders that include Bank of America, GMAC, Washington Mutual and Wells Fargo. Residents were able to meet with counselors about their housing issues and receive information about programs that may benefit them.

"The residents of my community disregarded the taboos and came out to receive assistance. Residents took full advantage of this workshop. I urge residents who attended to tell your neighbors about the information you received.

Let's work together to preserve our community," said Councilman Sanders.
