Police Seek Public's Help With Info On Dumped Body

The bullet-ridden and partially decomposed body of Derrick McNair was found in an Arverne lot in February. Police detectives seek information on his last known whereabouts.
Detectives from the 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway are seeking the public's help in solving the murder of Derrick McNair, 19, a Staten Island resident, whose bullet-riddled and decomposing body was found by a passer-by under a bush on an empty lot at Beach Channel Drive near Beach 45 Street, just after 11 a.m. on February 9.

The Chief Medical Examiner had declared McNair's death to be a homicide and the cause of death (COD) to be gunshot wounds to the head.

At the time, police sources declined to say where and when McNair had been killed, but there were indications that the murder may have been committed in another location more than a month before the body was discovered. Police sources speculated that the body was then dumped in Arverne.

Detectives working on the case say that they are looking for local leads to McNair's last days.

It is possible, they say, that McNair had a girlfriend on the peninsula and that he might well have been staying here prior to his death.

Anybody with information about McNair and his whereabouts prior to February, is urged to contact the 101 Precinct Detective Squad at 718-868- 3429.
