Cops Exchange Rounds With Arverne Shooters
Seek Second Shooter in Dispute Shootout
By Howard Schwach

Detectives from the 101 Precinct Squad are seeking Takin Newsome in connection with the shots fired at police officers on Beach 54 Street last Monday
Police officers from the 101 Precinct responding to a call of "shots fired" at the Ocean Bay Houses in Arverne last Monday night ran right into a shootout between two men with a beef against each other, police sources say.

"On Monday, two of our officers came across two males discharging their firearms at each other in front of 54-71 [Almeda Avenue]. The two officers got in between it," Captain Brian McMahon, the precinct's commanding officer, told The Wave. "{The cops] let some rounds go at the perpetrator, but he was able to escape."

McMahon added, "There appears to be something going on again at the Ocean Bay Houses, but we're not sure what it is at this point. We're putting a lot of resources into [the investigation], however.

On Thursday, Detective Kevin Cashen from the 101 Detective Squad, provided a photo of Takin Newsome, of 343 Beach 54 Street, who they are looking for in connection with firing shots at the responding officers.

Cashen said that they had already arrested the other shooter, Jamil Dobson, involved in the incident, which was the result of a dispute between the two local men.

Anybody with information on Newsome's whereabouts should contact Detective Cashen at 718-868-3429.
