BCAC/St.Virgilius CYO Tyros Sweep Holy Family

The Broad Channel Athletic Club/St. Virgilius CYO Tyro Girls softball team opened the 2008 season by winning both sides of a doubleheader against Holy Family.

The BCAC girls opened up in the first inning by scoring three runs on RBIs by Kaitlin Manzi, Caitlin Mammes and Nancy Soloman.

In the third inning, the girls put up six more runs on hits by Kaitlin Manzi, Katie McIntyre, Chrystal Scotti and a three run double by Shannon Minihane. Caitlin Mammes would drive in a run in the fifth inning for a 10-0 lead.

Hits in the sixth inning by Maureen Kelly, Jacquline Valet and Regina Hemminger would put three more runs on the board. Seventh inning action saw Nancy Soloman drive in one run with a single and Shannon Minihane hit a three run triple for a 17-0 final.

In the second game, Holy Family quickly put up two runs in the first inning to take the lead.

St. Virgilius would answer in the bottom of the second with five runs on hits by Nancy Soloman, Shannon Minihane, Christina Servello, Maureen Kelly and Jacquline Valet to take a 5-2 lead.

Christina Servello and Maureen Kelly also recorded hits as BCAC defeated. Holy Family, 10-5. Defensively, the BCAC girls were outstanding with great individual plays by Amy Zeller in the infield and Amanda Yodice in the outfield.

The next game is scheduled for April 19 against Blessed Sacrament at PS 184 at 8:00 a.m. On April 27 the girls play home at Memorial Field against St. Matthias at 9:00 a.m.
