for larger version       Censorship at BCHS As a Beach Channel graduate and current employee, I feel that Dr. Morris made the correct decision to remove offending artwork from the 2007-2008 yearbook. Drawings of teens in school-girl outfits striking provocative poses serve no educational function. None of are these drawings are representative of what BCHS, Rockaway or the many local businesses that sponsor the yearbook, are about. The United St-ates Supreme Court ruled in the case of Hazelwood school district V. Kuhlmeir (1988) that a school principal does have the right to determine which items are appropriate to be printed in school based activities. A yearbook is a commemoration of students' struggles and achievements during their high school years. Since the drawings did not reflect student activities or school functions, Dr. Morris made the correct decision to remove them.
