Wrestling in the Rockaways
By Nikolas Ramirez and Mike Massoni

On March 25, wrestling teams and coaches from Rockaway schools M.S. 225 and M.S. 105 visited the Scholars' Academy for their first three way wrestling match. Members of the three teams battled it out on the mat, giving it their all to try to pin down their opponent.

Not only did these wrestlers have strength, but they also have flexibility, strategic thinking and command of technique. Along with team members, fans and parents, the Scholars' Academy's pep band entertained the audience between matches.

All three teams participate in New York City's "Beat the Streets" program, which encourages young men and women of many levels to learn discipline and respect through sports.

"It was great to see so much fantastic team spirit today from so many athletes," said Scholars' coach Mr. Lunati. Anyone present in the Scholars' Academy gymnasium that day would have agreed.
