Birds were up along the marshes with some schoolie bass rolling through them. The head boats over the weekend did their usual bouncing around, some up on the south end of Woodhull, while others were to the west. When I passed by they didn't seem too busy and the reports on the net pretty much sum up that flounder had been caught, although nothing spectacular. The old fisherman's expression EAST IS LEAST (regarding wind direction), sure held true. I rolled up on a few boats along the sticks in Woodhull, a good muddy bottom and place to escape the wind, exchanged pleasantries with fellow anglers and that was it. However, the forecast for the latter part of the week seems to be getting better and that is what we really need, some good rays of sun and diminishing winds. Little Neck Bay has its share of shore anglers, I can't help but notice them as I pass along on the parkway. My buddy, George, has been picking away at short bass on worms with some flounder mixed in. Not bad, at least the action has been okay. Soak a few worms on the flood tide and you catch a few. Regarding my boats, two of our three are in the water, the last of the KAREN ANN FLEET should be in the water by Monday. With any luck we should see some legitimate spring weather and some fair catches. People and fish are on the move. Cruising through Rockaway one sees rods atop roofs on 4x4s, and some buzzing around the tackle shops. Everyone's got the itch. Captain Vinnie can be reached at 516-728-6952.
