Eliminate Placards, Not Motorists
Dear Editor,

As reported in last week's Wave, the Mayor's Congestion Pricing Plan (I mean, his Commuter Tax Proposal) seeks to reduce 150,000 vehicles a day from entering Manhattan below Bloomingdales. Coincidentally, The New York Times reported 142,000 emergency parking placards have been awarded to city employees. Voila, Mr. Mayor, connect the dots here...eliminate 100,000 of these placards and you're two-thirds towards your goal without collecting one $21 fee from UPS (or 8 bucks from me).

The Mayor says, "Hey Pete...for the city's sake, take the Bus or the Train." So I say, "Hey Executive VP to the Deputy Mayor's Ombudsman...for the city's sake, take the Bus or the Train."

Rockaway's own NYC Council rep Joseph Addabbo - likewise - is sooo very concerned with lower Manhattan/ Wall Street congestion. So much so that he has co-authored four congestion resolutions calling on just about everyone from the President of these United States on down (himself excepted, of course) to do somethin'.

How about Resolution #6666, Mr. Councilman, "Dear Fellow New Yorkers...for the city's sake, The NYC Council, having been generously awarded a 25 percent raise by the good people of New York City to an annual salary of $112,000, will now pay our own parking, and further call on all our staff and aides to either do the same, if they must, or take the Bus or the Train."

To lead from the point...now that's a great person.

PETE STUBBEN
