Home Aide Busted For Stealing From Patients
By Nicholas Briano

A Far Rockaway resident who works as a health aide with the elderly has been arrested by Nassau County detectives for defrauding an elderly patient of nearly $7,000 in cash, police sources say.

The 86-year-old patient, who resides in Cedarhurst, requested a home health aide to take care of his wife. Police say, however, that the Rockaway resident, identified as Tonie Carpenter, of 15-02 Mott Avenue in Far Rockaway, stole from the couple's home on several occasions in the past month, allegedly amassing a $7,000 stash.

Carpenter was arrested at the Lynbrook office of All Metro Health Care last week and charged with grand larceny in connection with the Cedarhurst case.

After further investigation, police officials also accused her of ripping off other Five Towns patients who were previously in her care, although none of the names of the victims have been identified by police.

She was arraigned this week in First District Court in Hempstead on charges of forgery, identity theft, and criminal possession of stolen property, all felonies that arose from crimes that were committed last year in Lynbrook, North Woodmere, and here in Rockaway.
