for larger version       Gunfire Breaks Silence In Redfern Area Police responded to two separate incidents of gun violence - one report of two men shot and the other of shots fired - in the area of Redfern Houses, over a two-day period earlier this month. On March 9, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers arrived at 1310 Redfern Avenue and found two black males on the ground with gunshot wounds. The victims, one with a gunshot wound to his back and the other with a gunshot wound to his leg, were taken to Jamaica Hospital. Precinct personnel established a level one mobilization when they arrived. Also called to the scene were members of the Precinct Detective Unit (PDU), the Emergency Services Unit and the Queens South Task Force. A search of the area turned up four spent shell casings and one spent bullet. On March 7, at approximately 8:30 a.m., police responded to a call of shots fired at 1279 Redfern Avenue. Officers canvassed the area and found three spent shell casings and one unopened energy drink can that may have been held by the intended victim, according to police reports.
A level one mobilization one was established and police aviation was called in. No victims were found at either of the two local hospitals and an air search of the rooftops also produced negative results. There were no reported injuries.
