100 Precinct Community Council Honors Officers

Danny Ruscillo, President of the 100 Precinct Community Council, and 100 Precinct Captain Tom Barrett award officers, Sgt. Michael McClernon and Alex Martins with the Cop of the Month award at this week's community council meeting. According to Barrett, car thefts have significantly increased in 2008, but on February 8, the two officers received a report regarding a stolen car and immediately went to look for it. They apprehended two suspects and recovered the car for its rightful owner.
100 Precinct Youth Officer Shelon Morgan was also on hand Wednesday night. Morgan is a post advisor for the 100 Precinct Explorer program, which teaches teenagers to become active in the community through different initiatives such as graffiti cleanups and beach cleanups, while learning basic police work. They are currently recruiting members at Beach Channel High School on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. and require the teens to be a minimum age of 14 years old.
