Rockaway Bungalow Film A Hit With Locals
The documentary traces the early history of Rockaway, from the tent cities that preceded the first bungalows that were built in 1905, to a time when there were more than 8,000 bungalows lining the beachfront, to the present, with approximately 400 bungalows still standing. The producers of the film hope to have the film shown on PBS. Co-producers Elizabeth Logan Harris and Jennifer Callahan are in negotiations with PBS flagship station Channel 13 here in New York. "We showed it to Channel 13 over a year ago - last June," said Harris, who added that the station was interested in the project and would like to see it when it is done.
"We hope to have it done by summer and shown in Rockaway," said Callahan, who is also the director. The film debuted at the Museum of the City of New York to an audience of 300 people on November 13. Since then, an extra three and a half minutes has been added to the twenty-five minute film.
Anyone with memories of the bungalow era, memorabilia or suggestions can get in touch with the producers by e-mailing bungalowdoc@yahoo.com.
