VFW Post 8540
Dear Editor,

I am writing on behalf of the members of post 8540 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars concerning our upcoming activities. However, I would first like to thank everyone who attended our mass at St. Genevieve parish on Veterans Day (November 1, 2007) and to all those who attended our brunch afterward in the church hall where we raffled off over $800 worth of prizes to two lucky winners.

Every year, we contribute money to the Veterans Administration hospitals in St. Albans and Brooklyn. We also contribute funds to the boys and girls home in the Midwest.

Next month, we start our annual poppy drive. If we're lucky, it might be as successful as our 2007 sale.

Our post is always interested in new members. If any veteran is interested in joining our organization, they should call 718-474-2959 and ask for Post Commander Tom Mitchell or Junior vice Commander Walter Brady at 718-504-1951. Either one of these men will be glad to inform you how to join our ranks. We meet on the first Thursday of each month in the Volunteer Fire House located in Roxbury, NY (which is a part of Breezy Point). We will be glad to welcome you with open arms.

WALTER E. BRADY
