Ferry Service In reply to Mr. Rob Sarnoff's editorial comment listed in The Wave edition of February 22, regarding ferry service in the Rockaways, I too am all for the service. The service would provide not only easier transit to Manhattan for year round residents, but would also possibly aid our community in increased revenue in allowing easier access to and from the Rockaways for summer tourism. My thoughts as well as other's, is that we just need to keep it out harm's way. Your view was that it should begin somewhere in Bayswater or Inwood versus the already existing Breezy Point landing. This course of action would cause harm to our bulk heads in Jamaica Bay. It would add to the already existing demise of our wetlands, damage waterfront properties and cause unsafe conditions for small craft. This is exactly what occurred when a ferry service did indeed begin in Inwood. Please check The Wave's archives dated on or around May 1990 in regard to the ferry service in place at that time. There you will find a number of articles/editorials stating the same. I believe that the only way to avert these happenings is to begin the ferry service at the designated landing as per City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and not from the back of the bay.
