Support A Candidate - Even If Your Favorite Is No Longer In The Race
The Republican candidate is already in place, and if you like John McCain for President, you can sit back and watch the Democrats slug it out for that party's nomination. The Democratic primaries have been, in many cases, divisive, some might say "nasty." Feelings are running high with the candidates, Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama, running approximately 100 delegates apart at this writing. This has been a good primary season. Tens of thousands of voters have come out to vote or to caucus and many feel strongly about one candidate or the other. Many college students and other young people who have never been involved in a political event prior to this year have joined the fray, and that is good for democracy. We hope, however, that those young people will not 'tune out and turn off" if their particular candidate drops by the wayside. This election is too important and too close to lose voters who turn their backs on the electoral system. In this election, the old saw that "Your vote counts" may be truer than ever. Don't drop out if your favorite candidate loses the primary - be it Clinton or Obama. Stay the course. Pick another candidate to back. No candidate fulfills a voter's total agenda. No candidate is the "perfect" candidate. Find the things you like, not the things you do not like. Vote as if democracy depended on your vote. It might very well be true.
