'Explore Japanese Culture' At Sorrentino

Children who attend Sorrentino Recreation Center's after school program are participants of the Explore Japanese Culture program, which teaches the different aspects of Japanese culture.

The goal of the program is to provide young children with the opportunities to cultivate a sense of "Global citizenship" by exploring different cultures and values. The program presents the many aspects of Japanese life to the after school participants. Volunteers will introduce Japanese culture and lifestyle to children in eight sessions. Each session will be held once a week on Fridays. Content include Japanese language, Japanese play (origami, Sudoku and Iro-oni), Japanese food, Japanese martial arts, Tea Ceremony and Japanese dance. The program is run by New York Youth Services Volunteers and is sponsored by Derek Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation. For more information, contact Shaleen Nash, Deputy Center Manager, at 718-471- 4818.
