for larger version       James F.Metz James Metz, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died February 28. He was 87. Metz, a World War II army veteran, was born in Arverne. He worked as a New York City firefighter for 38 years before retiring. Most of his career was at the Far Rockaway Fire Station. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; and son Thomas. Metz is survived by his children, Warren, Richard, Matthew, William (Louise), Irene Mallazzo (Anthony), James (Eileen), Patricia Colleran (Bruce), Edward (Natisha) and Mary Napolitano; daughter-in-law, Karen; brother, Warren; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to The Meserole Funeral Home, Inc. Services were held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Interment was at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery in Flushing, New York.
