'Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries'

The FDNY is encouraging New Yorkers to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when they change their clocks this Sunday for Daylight Saving Time.

The annual "Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries" campaign is a citywide event, is aimed at promoting fire safety awareness and reminding New Yorkers about the importance of having a working smoke alarm in their home. The batteries were donated by the FDNY Foundation, the Department's non-profit arm which supports equipment, training and education initiatives.

The FDNY and FDNY Foundation unveiled the largest fire safety campaign in Department history, called Sound the Alarm. Funded through a $900,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the cutting edge educational campaign was developed in the wake of a tragic fire in the Bronx on March 7, 2007, that killed nine children and one adult
