Takes Exception To The Times
Dear Editor,

I must take exception to your comments in today's Beachcomber section. You quote recent articles in the NY Times (aka "the drive-by media"), which question current treatment methods of Diabetes and high cholesterol. What both you and the Times fail to mention is the decades of research and thousands of studies upon which today's treatments are based. One negative article or study cannot compare to the vast amounts of data that show positive effects of these treatment protocols.

I consider it irresponsible to report this information without mentioning the results of vast quantities of research that have found just the opposite. Unfortunately, some patients will read articles like yours or the Times and stop their medications without first consulting their physicians. I ask who would be responsible if a diabetic patient stopped taking his medications after reading this and died of a diabetic coma? I understand your need to print the news, but I ask that in the future, as a public service, you consider both sides of the story before printing such controversial information. Should you require any assistance, please feel free to contact me.

DR. PETER GALVIN
