"Their thoughts do not represent the thousands of hard working officers in the NYPD who enjoy their jobs," McMahon said. "Their lack of experience speaks volumes of their ignorance of the true tradition of the NYPD, and by no means do they represent the 101 Precinct." In the article, Officers Adam Deoliveira and Lisa Bonsignore told a Village Voice intern reporter, who was on a ride along with the cops, they both applied for higher paying jobs with the Nassau and Suffolk County Police Departments. "In two more years, I'm done, I'm out of here," Deoliveira told the Village Voice. Bonsignore said "It's hard feeling like you're putting your life on the line for so little." About the neighborhoods of the 101 Precinct Deoliveira said, "This neighborhood would be great, if they got rid of some of the people. The good people, the people who work and do right, they're not the ones we see. We see everyone else - the ones who don't work, who are on welfare." In talking about the various calls to which they respond - drugs, domestic violence - Bonsignore said, "When you get on this job, and that's all you ever see, you almost get biased." McMahon said the opinions of the officers, who are still working at the precinct, are strictly personal ones.
"You can't punish someone about their personal beliefs," said McMahon on Wednesday. It's just stupid [comments]. They were offered counseling. Other than that there's not too much you can do."
