Friday Snowfall Moves Rockaway Residents Indoors For Few Hours

The first measurable snowfall of the winter hit Rockaway on Friday, keeping many locals indoors for the day. The snow, which amounted to three inches, according to the National Weather Service, was gone by late afternoon, leaving slushy streets in its wake. Pictured, kids play in the snow. Although the snow measured only a few inches, snowplows insured that many motorists still had to dig their way out of the confining snow.
There is always enough snow to make a snowman or snowwoman.
How can we have a snowstorm without at least a few snow angels?
Department of Sanitation snowplows were out all day and into the night, keeping streets and roadways open.
Many of the locals who wanted to venture out took to the boardwalk, where they found a winter wonderland of sea and snow.
The American Airlines Flight 587 Memorial on Beach 116 Street was covered with the snow and slush by afternoon.
Although there was not a lot of snow, driving on Rockaway roads on Friday morning was still a chore.
