The Inner Voice
Commentary by Marilyn Gelfand

Change always takes place whether we like it or not. Regardless of how we feel, time moves on and things happen that were unexpected.

Even for those of us who try to maintain everything as it is, it must change.

It's the nature of life to be part of change.

Why do we fear the unknown so much?

We fear what we cannot control. Predicting the future is a form of trying to control.

We have peace in the knowledge of how it will be if it goes the way we believe life will take us.

Some people feel excited going through the adventure of life.

For most of us, we feel uneasy as we wait to see what will happen.

If we know that the future will unfold at the universe's or God's pace, then we can relax more into a just-wait-and-see attitude, knowing that the divine order will be revealed. This is true for all our friends and family members. Despite the worry we sometimes feel, we can actually stop worrying and look around and see if we can pick out the way to have patience. So much of our lives involves waiting for the right thing or person. When it comes, we want to be sure that our eyes are open.

On the other hand, we may get a sense that the outer world is going in a direction that may be dangerous.

I need to pay attention to my inner judgments to know when to act, if necessary. In this case, it may be difficult to act quickly, and possibly that could put me in danger.

The more we can trust our own instincts and believe that the instincts we feel will lead us to safety, the quicker we can respond with action or the easier it will be to have patience.

Each day becomes just another piece of the moving wheel of life.
