Ignored Retirees
Dear Editor,

I find it troubling that our elected officials who represent our district in Congress have simply ignored 20 million retirees on social security. They also did not extend the benefits for the unemployed. These representatives merely "rubber - stamped" the White House economic package unopposed. Americans on social security pensions would also like to receive a rebate to spend. Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, along with her Democratic colleagues were elected to oppose the Bush Administration exactly in such situations as this. Obviously, they haven't really gotten the message. Senior citizens are the most consistent voting bloc; and perhaps they should reconsider elected officials who don't act in their interests. Thankfully, the senate Democrats are showing better wisdom by proposing the Baucus-Grassley Stimulus Bill. They would allow a $500 rebate for all retirees on social security who received over $3,000 in 2007. Many of us, I might add, pay federal taxes on our social security pensions. Americans should write and phone all their Senators, the President and demand that they act in good faith. Especially those who are currently running for the White House in 2008.
