Leave the Rumors to the Rags
Dear Editor,

For a few scary moments yesterday, I thought I was reading a supermarket tabloid - although I could have sworn it was The Wave when I started reading.

I'm referring to the letter by Joseph Lane in which Mr. Lane titillates us by reviving that tired old rumor that Hillary Clinton might be - GASP! - a lesbian. Or, as J. Lane puts it, "what we now assume what she is."

Now, I have watched Rosie's and Ellen's shows numerous times and listened to a fair amount of Madonna music. If I had ever been important enough to have an ex-military Secret Service guy following me around - I guess it would be fair for him to assume that I am a lesbian as well.

Come on Joe. We're in the 21st century now. Come join us. If you have issues with Hillary's fitness to serve as President (I sure do!) then give us some real concerns to think about. To toss around broad hints - based on rumor and hearsay - about Mrs. Clinton's possible sexual preference - does nothing but betray your own low opinion of women and gay people. In my humble opinion, this kind of catty material belongs in the Enquirer, not in a legitimate newspaper.

William Forest
