Locals Receive Army National Guard Promotions

Major General Joseph J. Taluto, the Adjutant General for the State of New York, announced the promotion of members of the New York State Army National Guard in recognition of their capabilities for additional leadership.

Far Rockaway resident Fidel McCaulay, serving with the HHB 1- 258th Field Artillery, has been promoted to the rank of Specialist.

Far Rockaway resident Neftali Perez, serving with the Troop B 2-101 Cavalry (RSTA), has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Army National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability and development potential. In addition, promotions recognize the best qualified Soldiers and attract and retain the highest caliber Citizen Soldier for a career in the New York Army National Guard.

Ryan Completes Basic Training

Marine Corps Pfc. James L. Ryan, son of Darlene Ryan of Rockaway Beach and James L. Ryan of Belle Harbor, recently completed the 12-week program at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina.

Ryan learned basic skills in first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. He also received instruction on the Marine Corps' core values- courage and commitment, and what the core values mean in guiding personal and professional conduct.
