for larger version       Lady Seahorses Continue To Pile Up Victories The Far Rockaway Lady Seahorses won their sixth consecutive game by defeating Hillcrest, 48-33, on the road on January 29. Quenise Holland led the Seahorses with 16 points and Shawndia Pannell added 13 points. With an 11-4 record, Far Rockaway is currently in third place in the PSAL Queens B1 Division. The regular season concludes this week for Far Rockaway with road trips to second place Springfield Gardens on Tuesday and Forest Hills on Thursday. Awoeful season continues for the Beach Channel Lady Dolphins. The team has forfeited the final three games of the PSAL AA regular season against Francis Lewis, Banneker and Grand Street Campus. The forfeits put the Lady Dolphins record at 1-14, with the only win coming against Canarsie. Details were not revealed to the Wave as of presstime to why the school had to forfeit the games. Ryan Pearson went through the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in a span of three days. The Christ the King star, and early season candidate for Most Valuable Player in the CHSAA, thrilled the home crowd last Friday night against Holy Cross. With 2.1 seconds left and the Royals down three points, the Rockaway native caught a half-court heave and banked the tying 3-pointer to force overtime. Pearson went on to score 26 points as the Royals won 92-87 in double overtime. On Sunday, Pearson and the Royals would lose to Bishop Loughlin for the second time this season, 65-62. In an anticipated matchup on Monday night, the Lady Royals of Christ the King received 28 points from freshman Bria Smith in defeating Mary Louis Academy, 56-54. Mary Louis center Kelly Carman (6 points), a Rockaway native, gave the Hilltoppers (9-6) a halftime lead. They were on top for most of the contest but the Royals (6-0), who are first in the Brooklyn/Queens Division would acquire the lead on Geleisa George's basket with 24.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Obafemi Alese, a Far Rockaway resident who transferred from Archbishop Molloy to Wadleigh High School in October, has been elevated to the starting point guard position.
The Stella Maris junior varsity basketball team improved to a 6-1 record with a 45-32 victory over St. Saviour on January 18. The Lady Flippers, who are second in the Brooklyn/Queens CHSAA Division, were led by 14 points from Alison McGovern.
