for larger version       John F. Schaffner John Schaffner, a 30-year Rockaway resident, died January 19. He was 79. Schaffner was born in Mineola on August 14, 1928. He was a member of Christ Presbyterian by the Sea, North Channel Yacht Club and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clara Schaffner; and sister, Charlotte Servoss. Schaffner is survived by his sisters, Wilhelmina Leidecker and Frances Petrosino; 10 nieces and nephews, 11 great-nieces and -nephews.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hillebrand Funeral Home. Interment was at the Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.
