for larger version       Katherine Jackson Katherine Jackson, a longtime Rockaway resident, died January 20. Jackson was born in Crawfordville, Georgia on July 26, 1927. She worked at the Woodmere Nursing Home as a nursing assistant. According to family, she was also a mother figure to many young people in the Redfern Houses. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents, Fannie Mae and Ezelle Stephens; husband, Mack Jackson Sr.; daughter, Vernice "Cookie" Jackson; son, Larry Jackson Jr.; grandson, Bobby Thorpe Jr.; brothers, Ernest, Wardel, Robert Sr., and Willie Stephens; sisters, Idella Dennis, Georgia Mae Stephens and Ruth Mae Baskin. She is survived by her children, Mack Jr., Calvin, Marty, James, Pastor Annette, Joyce, Michael, Eddie, Glenn, Melvin, Shawn and India; 26 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Evonne; sisters-in-law, Grace and Hazel; brothers-in-law, Clifford and James; and other family members and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. Visitation and services were held at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Interment was at Springfield Cemetery in Springfield Gardens, New York.
