On another topic I would like to remind all drivers in Broad Channel, Rockaway, and the surrounding areas to please obey the traffic laws when driving, especially in bad weather! The BCVFD has had its share of auto accidents on the "STRIP" and in town. The latest incident, as reported in last week's Wave, involved a driver who apparently fled the scene of a bad accident and was never found. You also should realize that the speed limit in Broad Channel is 30 m.p.h. There are also some drivers I have seen who think it's okay to pass a school bus with it's red lights flashing as it unloads kids for school! Last time I checked that was illegal according to NY state D.M.V. traffic laws.
The BCVFD recently attended wake for a past Chief's father who suddenly passed. At this time I would also like to thank the members from the West Hamilton Beach Volunteer Fire Department who also attended the services. It's hard to find members to attend things especially with work schedules, school, etc. But these four members stepped up on our behalf when we were short our own members to attend, and from all of us at the BCVFD we say thank you! The Volunteer Departments in our area are always watching out for each other and this was a perfect example of what "BROTHERHOOD" should be like!
