for larger version       Mullings Hops From One Beach To Another Peyton Mullings has gotten used to the fact that a little sacrifice is order to play high school basketball. Mullings must get up before the crack of dawn, when the sun hasn't even begun to shine in the horizon to play high school ball. Mulling's day starts at 6:30 a.m. each weekday morning. He treks to the A train, which is the first of four subway trains he must take from Far Rockaway all the way to Coney Island, where he attends Grady High School. As a starting shooting guard on Grady, Mullings plays in the Brooklyn AA Division, which is regarded as the toughest league in the PSAL. The tough competitive nature of the Brooklyn AA is one of the reasons why Mullings, a senior, transferred from Far Rockaway High School to Grady in September of 2006. "I definitely chose Grady because I wanted to get to play in those rivalries. There were senior guards that were leaving and I wanted to contribute to the team," Mullings said. But he played sparingly in his junior year and was about to do the same until the arrival of assistant coach Jaqay Walls. The former college star and NBA draft pick changed Mullings' role and though only scoring 8 points per game, he feels comfortable with his role in the offense. And Mullings says his 1-8 team is ready to make a late push into get to the AA playoffs.
"I feel more comfortable here and I know that I'm where I need to be," Mullings said.
