Frances Lewine
Pioneering Journalist

Frances Lewine, a former Rockaway resident, died January 19. She was 86.

Lewine was born in New York City on January 20, 1921. She grew up in Far Rockaway with an extended family that included first cousin Richard Feynman, who later won the Nobel Prize in physics. She covered the White House for the Associated Press during six presidential administrations and spent nearly three decades as an editor and producer for CNN.

Lewin was a member of Executive Women in Government and the Society of Professional Journalist. She was elected to the Washington Society of Professional Journalist Hall of Fame, the Hunter College Hall of Fame, and was awarded the Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished service in Journalism.
