for larger version       Sylvia Johnson Sylvia Johnson, a longtime Rockaway resident, died January 13. She was 74. Johnson was born in Akron, Ohio on July 19, 1934. She was one of ten children. Johnson was a retired United States Postal Service worker. She also attended the Little Rock Baptist Church, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, and Macedonia Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, T.J. and Sylvia Borden Riggins; sister, Amanda Riggins; and brothers, Lois Ruker, Thomas and Donald Riggins; Johnson is survived by her son, Dr. Timothy Johnson, M.D.; sisters, Thelma Moody, Ann, Terri, and Judy Riggins; brother, Ellis Riggins; godchildren, Tarey and Teleaha; two grandsons; six great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Family Funeral Service Inc. Services were held at Macedonia Baptist Church. Interment was at Rosemount Cemetery in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
